Make sure that the sprite has outlines; the style we're going for here is a simplistic and cartoony one, therefore line art is much more apparent. Secondly, its ears look a bit too Furby-ish. Flappers ears tilt more inwards and should be a little more atop the head.
Another thing: in the tutorial, recolorme mentions that it's a good idea to start out with a perfect, symmetrical circle. Try going off of this circle here. It should have the ideal dimensions for the sprite's size, plus Flapper is pretty round anyways.
If that shall be your final image, also make sure that you convert it to have colors in this palette:
Edit: on second thought, Flapper should probably be a pretty petite bat due to its wingspan taking up most of its size. So probably not a good idea to use the 17x17 circle as a base...sorry about that.
