Shit this takes me back.
Ok... I came to Pixeltendo when I was using GM 4.3 so... 2002? That doesn't even sound right, but I know I joined before 2003. That's the year of my Abyss Demo that I shared with everyone there.
I used to be ZeeHero, and I came because the GMC was a piece of crap if you wanted to learn how to do your own sprite work. So some people mentioned Pixeltendo. So I went, sucked at pixel art but was overconfident. Then buckled down and got better. I'm still not that good, but I know enough for my needs now. I got halfway through a TUGS match once. It was fun.
But oh, I was banned for trying to help a kid with his busted MS Paint. Who even listens to strangers on the internet, in a forum about pixel art, when it explicitly says no computer questions? That's how you melt your drive. I was gone a week. Then there was perhaps the most fun I ever had.

This brat was annoying, persistent, and all around fabulously an undesirable. He annoyed me the same day he posted his ten page fan fiction that *nobody* else read. I read it, at least the first page (terrible by the way). It had his real name on it. A simple google search and I got his school.
So I started to pretend I knew the guy from school. Doing cold reading on him, publicly in front of the entire forum. People kept comparing it to Death Note the whole way through. During the time, I told Grooveman about what I was doing. The final stroke of brilliance was convincing him to leave or else I would tell everyone 'at school' about his fan fiction and embarrass the hell out of him. He did. I think he came back much later (months) when he realized he'd been conned.
I think the end of that topic was the best love I'd ever gotten - somebody took that scene of Kira in the helicopter and replaced his face with my character "Exactly as planned".
One of the best pranks I've ever done online. Granted, it's ancient history. It's hard to forget such a fun moment.
I was a mod at tSR breifly, but I did some things in a really bone-headed way and stepped down. I left shortly after that, and only came back a few days ago.
So why did I come here? To learn to make my own sprites. Why did I come back... in a lot of ways some of the older members are old friends and familiar faces. It's nice to come back and see them all. To see Vipershark not the ass end of everything, to see the changing tides of talent, but most of all to see that the landscape of the beach itself never changes, but the water's never the same twice.
