I don't know if a F2P model would be sustainable.
Not that I'm arguing, I literally don't know what the potential profit for the toys is when compared with their manufacturing cost as well as the cost of creating (in this case multiple) solid, whole games.
I do like that Nintendo plans on making the figures compatible with multiple games, though... if the figures could last for the entirety of the console generation (at least) before launching a 2.0 version, I'd be way more down with this than I am at the moment. And I mean, for the entirety of the generation they still be making new figurines, but I really don't want a new Mario figure each year. The completionist in me will have to buy them all, and I'd rather have new characters added each year to games I already love...
