The DS game was alright, although the baby-switching mechanic got a bit too annoying for me. Plus, the aesthetics of the game felt a bit... off.

There's also the subplot with the "star children" and time-traveling Bowser and Kamek from the future.

This is exactly why I think the game feels like a fangame. Mixed graphics and everything was just... unprofessional feeling. It's not the only reason why, but it's a huge factor.

Also yeah, the subplot was pretty dull and uninteresting.
