I think the avatar is more of a give away than the name. Data was the name of Mega Man's monkey in Mega Man Legends/64. MML fan or ST fan, I'll still say "greetings."

Well, to my credit, there are significantly more fans of Star Trek over MML, so it's more likely someone would say "Huh? Data? Are you a trekkie TOOOOO? " than someone saying the same thing and thinking Legends. Um, well, no offense to MML fans out there, but you guys are in small groups is all I'm saying, eheh

The avatar would give it away more easily though, I agree XD
