Those corner 24,24,24 pixels are actually to be the outline color 8, 8, 8 at 50% alpha transparency. GIFs don't support partially translucent pixels, but it'd essentially look like this:

Since the pixels are transparent instead of a specific shade of gray like Mario and Luigi, they can go over any kind of background, and still give the sprite a bolder outline effect, which is what I want. I may make it 75% transparency; I haven't played with intensity yet, but I know the end-result is what I'm going for.
