Technically that's his 'Tanooki Suit' equivalent. Mario's is a Raccoon-looking suit, fitting with the Tanuki of Japanese lore. The name 'Tanuki' I believe translates to 'Raccoon Dog', thus why the Mario and Luigi Tanooki suit files are named as such. For added "fun", Luigi's 'Tanooki' suit is a fox, to parallel with the Tanuki of Mario. The fox being a reference to the Japanese youkai fable 'Kitsune' creature, which was a fox spirit.
