If you've never even met the guy, why make a personal birthday topic for him? Generally speaking birthday topics are made by friends (or at the very least people you've communicated with) and it's kind of weird if some person you've never even spoken to before makes you a thread. If there isn't a thread made for someone that you've never interacted with before, there's probably a reason why (such as them being gone for years, like in this case) and you should leave it alone.
