Quoting myself from another thread:
To answer your question directly, almost every staff member will be online at least once every 24 hours. As mentioned above it's 100% voluntary, so we're not paid and do it in our own free time. Of course we do try to keep the sites running smoothly, but there are other things that take priority sometimes. This can lead to large wait times for some people, unfortunately. (Once again I apologise to all the people waiting on their sound submissions to be moderated, I will try and dedicate some time soon each day to do it!)
However, with luck your submissions should be approved or rejected within the next couple of days (if they're on TSR/TMR/TTR). But if it takes longer don't worry, someone will get around to it eventually.

For example, sprites are usually quite easy to moderate; you simply check out the sheet, see if it's all well, then approve or reject. Sounds, on the other hand, require you to download the entire ZIP (which can be anywhere from 1 to 10 to 50MB), test some sounds (reasonably spread out, not every single one of course), and then approve or reject. As you can imagine, the latter is more bothersome.
The backlog is another factor. TSoR currently has more than 300 submissions waiting (which I really should get round to!!!), while TSR has less than 150, while TMR and TTR have about 100. Not only do high numbers feel more daunting to do, but it also means that if you moderate them in order of submission (which is generally what I do) then it takes longer for new submissions to get moderated.
I should also point out that people tend to do submissions that already have game/sheet icons first. Otherwise we have to make them ourselves, which is obviously less convenient.
