It is? Cause I watched that live and there really wasn't much to see.
Note that I said no gameplay of note shown.
Obviously I've seen them do several live demos and there's screenshots of actual ingame stuff but like, nothing is actually HAPPENING in them.
The guy gets in his spaceship and flies into some space combat that's going on around him and seems to just kind of breeze through the warzone. He notes that you can join either side... but doesn't. We might as well be looking at a non-interactive benchmark or some kind of tech demo video that shows some cool explosions and oohs and aahs while you can look around at the pretty colors but the guy isn't actually doing anything.
He zooms out to the solar system thing. Okay, the whole "infinite universe" concept is pretty cool and I have to give that props. But like, what do you actually DO in that infinite universe? An unlimited gameplay field is pretty worthless if there's no actual gameplay going on in that field.
So the dude jumps to a brand new, previously undiscovered planet. None of those warring guys follow him and he's immediately out of the danger zone, not that he was ever actually in any danger. The level of tension (read: excitement) drops from barely registering to none at all because he's now on the other side of the universe, still not actually doing anything. He lands on this new planet and then continues to not do anything. Again, the concept of exploring and discovering completely new planets is pretty cool but it gets boring quick if there's nothing to DO on these planets. He looks around for a while seemingly confused and not really knowing where to even go "well, I've seen better but I've also seen worse..." and kind of off-handedly notes that there's a beacon behind a mountain... that he doesn't go to.
Then FINALLY we see some kind of enemy or something. Those walker things come up to him and there's some light first person shooting but that's literally it.
That's all I know of No Man's Sky at this point. There's a big universe and there's a space ship but the entire game is completely empty and devoid of any actual gameplay or objectives if the times it's been shown in E3 and such are any indication. He notes that there's some kind of overarching objective of getting to the center of the galaxy or whatever, but he ends up going AWAY from that in his gameplay demo.
What the heck was there to draw anyone in? He notes that there's crafting and mining but did neither and I have yet to see them.
Is the entire game just a randomly generated walking simulator? That's more or less all we've seen so far.
This game bothers me because the way they hype it up makes it sound like it's right up my alley but from everything I've seen of it so far I honestly couldn't possibly have LESS hype for it.
