Yeah, the soundtrack early on is pretty weird. It's primarily chiptunes with some high-def instruments here and there. But as the game progresses, the chiptune instruments become less common and you get an even balance of the two. It's cool to see how as the game becomes progressively less like other RPGs, the soundtrack evolves as well.
Oh, and don't feel too bad about that mistake you made. It's something that happens to a majority of first-time players (including myself).
