When people assume I hate gays just because I don't agree with their lifestyle.

I mean, come on, they're STILL people. It's not like I want to go out and make their lives a living nightmare. It's not like I'm sinless either (I can attest that I've been a thief, a liar, and neglectful among other things). >>

One of my sisters is gay and I have pleasant conversations with her.

I can tell you right now calling homosexuality a "lifestyle" will get you plenty of flack.
