Fans have no problem, but anyone approaching without foreknowledge is doomed. My Grandma got Mega Man X month after my birthday (since it was sold out at the time) and asked the poor clerk for super Mario x.

Are you sure that's not just because it was your grandma trying to get you a game? I mean, I know it's cliche, but older people are generally the ones who have a harder time keeping up with all these similarly-named things.
And I don't think the companies are really interested in trying to accommodate for people outside their target demographics, if that makes sense.

Also, that's why it's a good idea to send out a birthday list.
