One example I can dredge up is Mega Man II (Gameboy, before anyone freaks out). Whereas MM1GB had a somewhat clunky soundtrack, it was usually far less chaotic so it didn't sound scratching your eardrums on a chalkboard. MM2GB, though. Oh man. Just listen to this mess. The problem wasn't so much the compositions themselves; for instance, MM2GB Magnet Man actually has a cool theme when it's not processed through a possessed Game Boy's colon. The rookie developers that Capcom shunted this game onto just didn't know what to do. Thank god that the following Game Boy titles vastly improved in quality to be almost NES-like.
