I'd like to think Little Mac getting into Smash 4 is mostly due to the newest Wii game coming out, and Little Mac showing a shitload of personality in said game. Not only that, but he's a ridiculously popular character IN THE WEST thanks to Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! being such a huge hit. He's also a historic character, as Sakurai obviously noticed with the wireframe costumes repping the original Arcade games.
Had Punch Out!! Wii not existed, I don't think Little Mac would've made it into the game.
Edit: oh and I went to another Smash 4 tournament on Monday and I placed T13th again. Though I used Yoshi exclusively.
