I feel like I'm the only one who likes the Classic Mode on the Wii U. I mean, I really like the 3DS version a lot too, but I like them because they feel fresh. 3DS has the branching path system, and Wii U has this sort of tabletop game vibe in its design and allows for a very large amount of possible match-ups.
Really the reason the Wii U version is the way it is rests entirely on 8 player Smash. It allows for more matches incorporating it, and it allows more randomization for the enemy sets, and also incorporates move customization into the enemy as well. I like it a lot more than Brawl's, which had a preset arrangement EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Round one is always exclusively a Zelda matchup, the second set is either Yoshi or DK only, and so forth until the three man battle free-for-all before Master Hand.
