While I've played quite a bit of minecraft, it was mostly due to I was playing it with other people, other players keep me invested in the game. If minecraft never had multiplayer not nearly as many people would have cared about the game. The survival and gathering aspect is boring, combat is a joke, most mods out there are outdated, poorly made, and unbalanced, and if I wanted to just build, i could use a voxel based program or legos. The game is incredibly barren and empty, the void tends to be instantly filled when you bring other players into the mix. Since now you're encouraged to do things like build, either with other people in collaboration, or for the sake of showing off. Players don't mind the gathering and survival aspects as much when another player is there either. It's kinda like if you were trapped in a cave or something in real life, alone it would be unbearable. But if trapped with other people, hey at least you can entertain each other.
And now to stray off topic cause, wynaut.
Recorded some gameplay of Third Strike and uploaded it to youtube, I'm the big blue thong-wearing guy, Urien. First round is glitched due to how replays are handled, it fixes itself in round 2.
