Export as FBX, that's the best way to do it.
Then what? Blender displays my FBX without textures. Or am I using the wrong utility? Sorry if I'm asking a lot of questions; I'm just really confused.
That's weird, exporting from 3DS Max as an FBX retains all texture information. What version of Max are you using, and what version of Blender are you using?
