if someone arrives with the intent of stealing stuff, or even harming you or a family member, and you're home, you're screwed unless you can either scare them off, or disable them. and if you can disable them, you may as well take them out

Obviously if they are breaking in to hurt you, then yes they are going to try and hurt you. But if they are just after your stuff?

No. No and no. A lot of burglaries are by addicts who just want the next hit and they need the cash. Even they don't want a break-in to go wrong. I mean if they kill you not only are they more likely to get caught but the punishment they'd get would also massively increase.

I'm not saying these people are nice people. But most aren't completely insane and killing a load of people.
