What made you decide to go with the metal bat?

I found out that Ninten's Bat was actually metal in Earthbound Beginnings' artwork.

Also, these are some Mario sprites I've been working on recently. They're based on his classic sprite designs, but I want to give it a fresh feel.

I tried some different techniques for the run animation this time. Not too sure how it came out, though.
