Not to mention that every time Nintendo does do something different, the other companies are always quick to try to copy them (and try to outdo them, sometimes with success and sometimes not). The Wii seemed silly at first but then everyone else tried motion controls too. After the Wii U came out, Sony was quick to add a touch pad to the controller of their upcoming console (early concepts even show the touchpad as a game screen). Even now before the console has even been released, there has already been a patent spotted for a Sony product that looks suspiciously like the Switch.
Maybe it's a matter of opinion, but I feel like it says something when Nintendo is the one being followed by the copycats rather than the other way around.
