Wow, not much activity around here eh
so i got a few things to say/suggest - hopefully it hasn't been long enough that you've made up your mind about this
first of all - what is that screen resolution? 272x208 ? kinda strange
it seems you're trying to do NES screen resolution, in which case i get the 208 height (224 minus one row of tiles on the top and bottom)
so i take it this 272 screen you give is a mistake - i put it back at 256 width
second of all, your tiles are all over the place - try to work a simple tileset without too many tiles (on an actual NES you would have to also fit the alphabet characters on one 256-tile set, so not taking up too many tiles for the menu is important)
here's my suggestion:
now judging by the commands at the bottom i now realise that this is supposed to be a battle screen, and here it doesn't leave much to be seen
i'm thinking it could be like this during your turn, and then the top bar reduces to only show HP for each of your characters when it's the enemy's turn
