I'm not quite sure if there is a way to bypass this in Blender, however it could be that the .DAE file is using exact paths instead of relative paths. If this is the case, you will need to get a text editor like Visual Studio Code (https://code.visualstudio.com/) or Notepad++ (https://notepad-plus-plus.org/) and go into the .DAE file to change the paths.
I recommend taking a look at the following thread and scrolling to the "Next you have to modify your .DAE" section. Follow their instructions and make sure to save the file, and then try importing it into Blender.
