These were my thoughts on the rig when i first opened it in Maya 2018, my opinions are coming from an animation background so i'm comparing them to the other animation rigs i use, also i'm using the Male Robin regular rig:(07-24-2018, 08:32 AM)skeptacles Wrote: Hey thanks for supplying the models with the textures and everything, really appreciate it! Perhaps because i'm using maya instead of blender, the rigs seem to be quite messy, not sure if it's the programs or just the rig itself but it's still great cuz i'm learning rigging right now.
One question if you don't mind, my friend is a huge Leo fan and was wondering if you'd be able to supply his model as well?
Many thanks and cheers!
Give an example of what looks messy please so I know what is going wrong and which models. It should work between autodesk programs.
In Pic 1:
-No nurbs controls so i had to click directly on the joints to move them which proved difficult since they were hidden inside the mesh.
-Plus the naming conventions make it harder to understand what each joint is meant to be used for.
In pic 2:
-The root joint control positioning makes it harder to not click on it since it's intersecting with the other joint components and makes it equally harder to click the other joints since i have to aim carefully where i point which we don't want to actively do.
In pic 3:
-This ties in with the naming conventions again because there are joints within joints and joints by themselves, i can still somewhat guess what they could be used for but it'd be better if we can tell right away.
In pic 4:
-No skinning lol.
All in all, i feel the rig could be improved by:
-Attach external controls above the mesh for easy clicking and to avoid having to work directly with the joints itself.
-Clearer naming conventions for each joint and what function they serve (e.g Left_FK_wrist_jnt).
-Have the root control away from the main skeleton. For me i like to use a scaled up nurb circle , so it still serves well as it is but without the added risk of clicking it if i wanted to click the legs for example.
-Hide the joints, animators don't like to see joints.
-Having the skinning would be great.

Of course, since my purpose was to study rigging, i only wanted to get the mesh so in regards to that i'm actually really satisfied. I hope this was helpful to you! Once again thanks for supplying the models!
