Have anyone worked with the Smash U Samus? Having probles with the rig.

I downloaded and I'm trying to add the IK handlers, but I'm failing. I think is because the bones have already rotations and as I understand(not a rigger here) the bones should be zero out. Just want to know if someone already worked with this model to create some fan art, then I can get some clues.
