As for your edit, his eyes look too relaxed, and I would put his belt down a few pixels.

He's suposed to be chuby, and by the looks of it, you are just taking his head and posting it on an edited Link body.

Yep, I did that. I checked some sprites on TSR and they're not just limited to Link fac-similes. I think I'll make him a bit bigger and wider than Link, similar to the workers.

His eyes should look relaxed. He's a very relaxed person throught the game. As for the tanuki, the current face you have now just doesn't work. It looks like some kinda wolf.
