The thing I don't get is why some games are "competitive" and others are for fun. Why can't they be both? Like games where you have stuff in it like items can't be a "true" competition. I mean who says?
Also I don't understand how just because a game is simpler, makes it less competitive. Does that mean you can't have a competition in badminton because its not as "hardcore" as tennis?
One of the greatest divides is probably Super Smash Bros. You have two types of people who play it:
-There's the tourny folk who turn off all the items, ban stages and characters and set a bunch of silly rules.
-Then on the other side you have people who don't believe Smash Bros. should be taken seriously at all and just go crazy with it.
I am, however, somewhere in between. Like I said, why can't it be both?
