DKC series sprite rip thread by Granville (new topic)
#1
It's been a while, over a year since my last rip (real life has been insanely hectic). I looked at my old topic and it was locked. So i'm creating this new topic because i've got a new sprite rip ready, hope no one minds. Wink

Anyways, i decided to rip the world map of Donkey Kong Country 2- Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES version of course). So without further ado, i present the Crocodile Isle rip (it's rather large)-

I hope you like it, it was harder to do than i initially thought it would be. Not until i started ripping it and paying attention did i realize how many effects were going on. Most of the regular sub-maps are pretty devoid of animation. This one is quite busy though. I think i got everything though, hopefully.

Got all the water animations. The layer is normally connected to the sky, but i split it off for space reasons (i didn't cut any pixels off don't worry, the sky is still there). I split off five frames for the lava level, the rock croc head has a lighting animation that needed ripping. The neon lights have an extremely smooth transitioning effect between colors, i think i ripped all of the frames of those (there are like 30 and they cycle between colors every frame i believe). Also included the torches and zingers. The smoke plume that rises up from the nostrils of the rock croc actually have four possible directions. I ripped one of them, the rest are just flipped vertically or rotated 90 degrees left and right.

Not sure what i'll do next. I'd like to cover some of the misc sprites found on all the world maps. Like the mini characters and the croc or kong heads on the level selection. Kremland's map could use a rip as well, there are some animated neon lights in the carnival portions. And i'd like to revisit DKC3 as well to get some of the map screen sprites.

I shall make this thread my dumping ground for any DKC series rips i do. Hopefully i won't wait another year to get more ready (things are a little crazy at the moment though).
