Mario & Luigi 4 Items

Nah just kidding, but I'm trying to make menu item icons in a style similar to M&L:BiS, just higher resolution (25x25, M&L:BiS has 16x16) and stuff. All from scratch. I am not a Mario & Luigi style pro though.



On the left are my originals (with custom palette), on the right are the same sprites with the M&L:BiS outline, palette and possibly other minor changes. Some of the colourings aren't that great as the game palette lacks some colours I would like to use (clearly visible on the 1-Up Mushroom, for example, due to the high contrast in the original M&L:BiS sprite).

Crits, tips and item suggestions are welcome.

I think the shells are the best. I do like the mushrooms as well. Just wondering, is there a golden shell in any game? Otherwise, great work!

Those are probably supposed to be yellow shells, which are presumably from Super Mario World.

Wrong.
That is supposed to be the golden shell from Super Mario Galaxy.

That is correct, it's the Gold Shell from Mario Galaxy. And thanks everyone, what type of item should I go for next?

Well, if you're gonna do more, maybe the Mario Kart items, and the others from the Super Mario series, like the suits, the Propeller Mushroom and the Spring Mushroom from Super Mario Galaxy.

maybe you could try to emulate non-mario(or even nintendo) items in the said style, that would be nice for a change.

@Darking: I should probably just set my goal as remaking all of my past item icons. That covers most important items that appear throughout the series.

@Francisco: Food, orbs and other similar small objects lend themselves to this style the best. Nintendo games just happen to feature a lot of those. If I can think of anything else that could work, I'll give it a shot.

@zalagan: As much as I'd love to update my old Mario enemies, it will be a process a lot more time-consuming than this. But I will get to it one day.
