Why do you want a new Kid Icarus?
#16
Gaming has come so far Megaman has been revived with a NES game. Bionic Commando is being re-armed and were constantly seeing games like Ghouls n Ghost getting remakes that play like the old titles.
And yeah I'm mainly a retro gamer as I feel older games were better designed and more challenging (I mean New Super Mario Bros was way too easy).

But gaming itself hasn't changed at all. You still jump, you still shoot things and the principle idea of providing an interactive piece of entertainment has stayed the same.

Technology has moved forward but gaming has only taken a few small steps.

see? you still don't realize how far it's really come, yes we still have some aspects of classic games, but sayign the graphics have come a long way is only just stating one aspect.

actual gameplay, like what you can actually do has changed, for fighting games, adding a small hill in the middle of the stage can change strategy all together. for RTS games, adding a simple wall in the middle of the stage can, yes, change strategy

and yet, that's only one aspect

I understand you're a retro gamer, just don't bitch about how you think upcoming games will bomb because of their past releases and/or if they're gonna change it
There is nothing to understand, that's why nothing understands it

And this is the point where I back out.

Sure, I love the games of today, but they just don't have the appeal as they used to be. It's not because progress is smaller over the years or something, however, the only reason why it doesn't appeal that much any more is the fact that the hype built around games caused the game market to be over-saturated with expectations. To add to that, most games nowadays only appeal to the majority of teens who think they're adult hard cores because they play violent games.

But that's aside from the point. The point is, Kid Icarus might have sucked. I myself don't like the original Ice Climber. The controls were clunky. Does that mean a new Ice Climber would suck? Most definitely not.

Did you know that DMA Designs made some shitty games as well before they got to make Grand Theft Auto? You see, a company's history isn't everything. What is everything is their current stance about the market.

Actually, just forget what I've said, it's most probably bullshit anyway.

It IS the same!

I mean, think about it, you shoot something at the other person, that other person shoots back. Only thing different is that this time you DODGE the projectile instead of bouncing it back.

what about melee weapons ?

how would that apply ?

"instead of shooting the projectile back at them, you dodge it and hit them with yourself"

Compare it with Pac-Man. Pac-Man came forth from Pong. But, instead of dodging or bouncing back "bullets", you needed to eat them. This evolved into pick-ups, and, surprise, melee weapons. I mean, does Power Pellet ring a bell?

what oB2k Mario was saying that the graphics, the gameplay style, the use of strategy, the engine used, and even the hype has all changed, from Pong to Hal-... 'scuze me, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little there

I'm Done For!

But uh, Metal Gear Solid was birthed from an old NES game, surpassing the original to become one of the most legendary franchises in gaming.

And without a sequel, Street Fighter would've been a generic fighting game no one remembered.

Kid Icarus could make the same coming. While most likely it won't be legendary like Metal Gear or Street Fighter, it could offer a new, sucessful franchise for the Wii. If they don't ruin it, that is.

Not going to get into this debate, just say one thing; anyone who doesn't like 3D Zelda's has one piss-poor taste in games.

You spelled MSX wrong.
I agree with Gary completely on this, and trust me, we don't get along.
Look at Mario fro example, yeah he has wall kicks and crap now but the basics are the same. You stomp things, get coins and power up.

And I love the old 2D Zelda games, and just thought the 3D ones never really matched there greatness. Give me Link to The Past over Ocarina any day.

Actually, I was more talking about games nowadays being piss-easy and more oriented at busting caps rather than challenging gameplay, but you've got a point as well.

And... I disagree with Zelda. See, I actually enjoyed LoZ:AoL more than LoZ:LttP. But maybe that was because it was a fucking golden cartridge I gave away.

How would you suggest they change the fundamentals then, Goemar?

Also your statement about technology moving forward but gaming only taking a few small steps applies to movies as well. You have an intro, rising action, climax, falling action, and conlcusion, you have a protagonist battling an antagonist. Tech has moved forward but movies have only taken a few small steps. (Your logic fails I think)
