Really nice edit Chris! I tried to keep the "ready to pounce" pose in my update but if there's something off let me know.

i don't know if you have a pet cat, but you may notice that it's their front which goes down when they are ready to pounce.
for now, your pose makes your manticore look like it's backing down, and the front paws just look too similar, it flattens it in the way i have the impression they're on the same plane.

I have cats but they're fat and lazy cats. P: That said if I wanted to keep the pouncing pose I could look up a reference.

But I decided a standing pose would be easier and more 'majestic'.

Anyways, here's the new silhouette:

And in the mockup:

I'm kinda starting to understand what you mean be defining shapes. Make it so that you can sort of tell what everything is right? Big Grin

yes, that's right, defining something is when you put everything into place to give it a sense. Smile

your new silhouette is still blobby and dumpy, and i've highlighted areas that need more work, which you can rectify with a little research via google, deviantart, flickr or anything else!

Googled up some ref images of lions and scorpions. I wish there was something like Posemaniacs for animals...

Hoping this is an improvement? At least the tail is accurate now.

to be honest with you, the legs are lame (apart from the farthest one to the left).

Tried like 3 more times to fix the legs, then just chopped them off and redrew them

I think the front legs look okay now but the back ones look... chunky. Slimming them down didn't work too well either

try at slimmer back legs.

they're looking far better, well done. now try fixing the front legs!

hahaha it's getting better and better but i'm not happy with the horns' position anymore, nor the back legs (nothing major, just fiddle around with its shape, my main issue being that diagonal line), and the manticore's front left leg (the one facing us) doesn't seem right, maybe shave off some pixels on the left?

Sorry if it annoys people that I keep putting silly things on the face, it helps take away from the monotony of minor edits.

Also here are silhouettes for Hieros Gamos's starters in Rank 4. Are you guys the kind of people who keep their starters or get rid of them? O:

Left to right: Dwartle (Earth), Salamandra (Fire), Danubine (Water), and Sylphen (Air). I'm pretty happy with all of them but Sylphen's silhouette is hard to read - it's supposed to be a round guy with arms inside a tornado... with arms.

Back legs on slamandra need some editing along with some of the fur
Dwartles leg clostest to the tail looks like its facing too far left and it needs thinning out a little aswell. Some of the spikes near the middle need to be... spikier
Quite like dunabine, but you might wanna define the space between the hair and the shoulder some more on the left. Also, its a bit bulgy around the mid section. Not sure if you wanted that but it looks a bit weird
Can't see much to fix with sylphen =)

Thanks! Here are the fixed versions.

Salamandra is made of fire (not fur) but I fixed him up regardless.

Fire...fire.... only thing I can say if you doing fire then is to pick a windblow direction and sprite the fire according to that
Your fire might seem randomly done otherwise

Also, if its fire you've done then you'll need to either remove or reposition the lowest flame at the front. Fire doesn't really point downwards Tongue
