Help me fix my veggies!

Im trying to make this as smooth as possible, but it isnt working. Especially with the leafy part. Im satisfied with its face, but if something is wrong, let me know.

I tried to AA some, but i dont really know how..

Im working on my other veggies, like the onion.
Any noise annoys an oyster, but a noisy noise annoys an oyster more.

Your lineart is really jagged, especially around the leaf. And it looks like you shaded this without realizing it's a round object. It needs depth. Your colors used for shading are also pretty bad.

Is this any better? I took out the shading, and i like it better. With just the orang and black, im hoping i can make it look nice.
I also added the onion, its only the onion-y color and the black outline.

The salad bowl is another character, its not technically a veggie though. It will have salad in it soon, but im done with it for now.

the carrot's too bright compared to the onion, the onion doesn't even look too much like an onion, and the salad bowl is jaggy and flat.
I suggest moving slower and only working on the carrot until it's perfected.
It's better to have to go back and change one thing than realize you're doing everything wrong and have to basically start over.

The carrot can have colors that bright, but the black really flattens everything.
Using black to outline everything is what some people call "eating away at the sprite", because it detracts from the piece itself.


look at these sprites of ruby and sapphire. They're small sprites, but they use different colors unlike black to bring out the piece better,
while still allowing dark colors to define certain areas.

Pokemon sprites in general are pretty good examples of anti aliasing, and color use in some areas.

Try maybe a dark orange to outline somethings (it doesn't have to be everything), and maybe to AA the black into the orange.
Make sure the orange isn't just a darker orange. Try something called hueshifting. In all simplicity, it's just changing the hue to make things darker/lighter/more interesting.
yellow is probably the color hueshifted the most. Instead of a muddy brown yellow, spriters could change the hue to a darker orange, or even a darker red to make it stand out better, and be more pleasing to the eye.

the left is the original sprite from legend of stafy 2 for GBA with hueshifting, while the right is an edited version with no hue-shifting.
See the difference? They bring stafy out, and make the base yellow look brighter, when both of the bases are the same exact color.

I'm not going to get too much into detail with the onion, but the main problem is that it doesn't look like an onion.
look for onion examples, REFERENCES ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND.

Right now, however, stick to the carrot, and basic spriting techniques. this is for later

Tl;Dr: stick with basics, don't rush things, work on color choice, AA, and forms, yadda yadda yadda.

You haven't fixed your lines at all!

Beyond jaggy lines, the most fundamental flaw I'm seeing with these is that it doesn't seem you're thinking of the characters as 3d forms. The reason the carrot looks better without shading is because the shading was completely ruining the illusion of the carrot as a cylindrical... thing.

I whipped up a quick drawing for you:
The top is what you've done, the bottom is my (very sloppy) sketch showing you what you need to keep in mind.
The curves I've drawn on the surface of my fix might not make sense to you; what I did was "draw through" the form, so you can see part of the line on the opposite side, too.
