Hello,

I've been working on a 4x4 foot 8-bit art project featuring classic NES sprites. I'd love some feedback if you have the time. I'm really impressed with some of the independent sprites on this site. Great stuff!

Thanks!
Steve

call me harsh, but this is the most overdone idea ever done, ironically.

basically, while not at its technical aspect, this is at the same level as the people just picking whatever sprite they can find and emulate it with beads. wich was a cool thing to do at first, but quickly became a lackluster, terribly boring bandwagon with zero to no effort besides the obvious technical aspect of just having each piece glued together.

tl:dr shit aint impresive in the least. the space invaders ones are the one slighty showing some sort of desing on their display, but besides that, they are also the second most overused sprite right after the megaman one. for once i would like to see people actually putting effort into elaborating their own compositions instead of just hanging from the balls of already established iconic characters who have been done over and over with barely any effort to be innovative.

Thanks for the feedback - I see your point. I've only done 4 mosaics so far and I was definitely concentrating on technical aspects first and foremost. I have some original ideas that I want to implement soon but I wanted to make something that would appeal to the majority (i.e. people I know - not the sprite community). Your points are well taken though. I don't disagree with what you said. It's not original - only in the implementation. Hopefully you'll think differently once I do some original pieces.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

If I were you I'd paint some original works or fan art instead, I mean your Megaman looks very neat and that there is no paint out of place (however it is very far away so I really can't tell) so it seems like you're a good painter, but, it would be easier for me to comment on something you did purely out of your own talent rather then a zoomed in sprite.

Also this might seem like I'm nitpicking but you really don't have to sign all of your posts, your user info on the left of each post you make, plus your signature, actually does this for you.

While these may not be the most original, you have to admit these are classy as balls. I'd hang one of these up in my living room.

below the eye on the right there are supposed to be two white pixels.

Thanks for all the feedback! Some of you will be happy to know I fixed the eyes

Reading your comments, I realized that probably should have done a better job of explaining what I'm trying to do. These mosaics are built from wood tiles that are attached to a base via magnets - so they are easy to change.

The mosaics I've put together were sort of a proof of concept/demo. They were nice because my friends and family could easily recognize them. As I refine this system and build some more tiles, I can hypothetically build or replicate anything that's 16x16 pixels or less. I hope to eventually build the frame up to 8x8' (32x32 pixels) Any suggestions for new mosaics are appreciated.

Anyway... Thanks again for the feedback!

While I agree that what you're doing has been done to death. The way you're doing it, with interchangeable magnetic tiles and whatnot, I think is actually pretty clever.

now that is a completely different story wich would actually be extremely awesome to have in my living room.
