Getting back into sprites
#16
I guess it's not people changing my sprites that annoys me, it's people getting up me for not doing what they say. Because yeah your right, it is good to get different perspective even with different styles. I can even understand being treated like a newb because as I said I've been out of this for a while and plus who the hell am I? But even still, to treat their own word as final and then to put me down because I didn't do precisely as they say just isn't cricket Angry

Thanks for that edit! I'm fascinated with how you blended the colours and I've really got to work on bringing out the features like the hood like you did. And wow I never realised I posed my sprites like that. I think it's because since I started drawing I made a habit of trying to show as much of the character as I can so they're usually in those sorts of poses. but as for the girls lower torso, I think it looked alright on the base but I think I screwed it up when I put clothes on her.

And what I mean about styles is I prefer not to sacrifice style aspects to make the sprite prettier because some styles are simply prettier than others but I don't want that to get in the way of choosing certain style aspects. That's why I'm so attached to the bold lines that also act as a shade tones.

Oh and what's with Jetters thanking everyone?

I did not thank everyone, it's agreeing with what they say. Getting told about that all the time is annoying me and I don't thank as much as people say. Simply why is it such a deal that I agree with a lot of things?

I think your sprites are good but I agreed with the criticism and TIA. I've got a good reason for thanking stuff, I don't do it randomly or senslessly.

The look you're going for reminds me a lot of this:

The sprites from this game do a very good job of balancing black outlines and shading with bold colours - and dynamic 'fighting' poses with reasonable balance (Though Gyamon's center of gravity is off because he's the 'crazy, unhinged' character). Take a look at 'em.
Specs 'n' Headphones has been revamped! Check it, yo.

the reason i had an issue with the way you used black was because i felt like it wasn't balanced. if it were music, i'd say there'd be a lot of dissonance.
anyway i gave a stab at using more black, rather like the marvel vs capcom 3 artwork i was looking at (and like you mentioned beforehand):

basically i'm reproaching you that you should've blocked out the black parts before shading, plus doing so should make it easier to shade as you've already set the lightsource.
also mine/yours:

i couldn't feel balanced if i stood like that.

keep practicing!

performing the poses you want to apply to a character is probably the best way to realise if they could be performed naturally or not. dynamism, just like any other design element, will ruin your work if abused.

Add the black shade before the colour shade? I'll definitely try that! And I do like to exaggerate my poses but I guess they still have to be doable so thanks for that as well. maybe I can find a place in between where it can be exaggerated but still doable.

I was working on the shading a bit more on the first guy so before I try this, here's what I had.
