Do you consider Evil Ryu a new/separate character?

I personally think Evil Ryu is just an EX version. And I'm not to happy with 3rd release of Super SF4 and don't plan to upgrade. I would've upgraded if they added Karin or Maki.

also what a silly question, of course evil ryu is a different character; he's not even considered better than regular ryu on tier lists, his srk fadc ultra combo does sub-optimal damage because his fireball can be charged but he obviously can't charge it in time in that combo, he has a free shakunetsu like akuma but no air fireball, his axe kick is an interesting mix-up tool that legitimately sets him apart from other shotos, he has a teleport (ryu does not!!) although it's shit compared to akuma's, and he also has some differences on his normals (I guess when they nerfed ryu's cr.MK they gave that old hitbox over to evil ryu because dang that thing's good!!!) and his FA is different, it might have better range than non-evil ryu's possibly

oh also he's about as sturdy as a wet noodle but it's okay because his damage output is so insane he makes his opponents look like they are also (another thing differentiating him from ryu; crazy damage output)

To me his just an Akuma without any aerial fireballs. Like all shotokan characters their pretty much the same utilize almost the same strategy. In terms of story he doesn't offer anything new. His pretty much like most shonen main characters like Naruto, Yusuke or Ichigo. They all get more powerful and crazy.

who cares about the story, the story in all fighting games is dumb as shit anyway :I i will admit that evil ryu is kind of eye-rolling in that he feels like some kind of 13-year-old DBZ fanfic thing but w/e

also are you saying that all shotos use the same strategy because if so then i'm not really sure you know much about these games

In the context of SSF4's gameplay, Evil Ryu makes more sense to be separate from Ryu in a character select screen. It's like Jin and Devil Jin in Tekken being separate. There ARE games that exist where alternate versions or EX versions of characters are available, sometimes exclusive to a handful of important characters, sometimes including the whole cast. It would be silly to have an alternate form of selection for ONE character.

Although I could think of other characters who would be cool in the game, Evil Ryu IS pretty cool and the concept of Evil Ryu has existed in the series beyond this game, so it's not like they just pulled him out of their ass (completely). I've played him and I do enjoy using him.
