A new body could help. Right now it's shaded In a way that I can't tell it has ridges or anything to screw into a socket. Looks more like a cloak a big blue headed guy has on.
I don't mean to be mean when I say that, you're definitely on the right track, but you could make the shape more clear.

Is this better depth-wise?

I see what you're trying to do, but it's not super visible until I zoomed in on it. (I am not on a computer though so I may be wrong) Regardless, it still doesn't quite look like it's able to be screwed into a lamp.
It does look more like metal though, so that's good ![]() If you're using a reference, can I see it?

I did not use a reference of my own, I did look at Dio's, also, I think he would look okay in a light fixture. ![]() (Added mouth for comic relief ![]()

![]() I hope you don't mind, I used Dio's reference to shade the base to show the ridges a bit better. I hope that this helped you a bit. Just look a bit closer at the reference and how the light is reflected. Thanked by: recme
I am keeping the body shape the same unless there is a major flaw in it. However, I tried your shading technique, and it turned out well, thanks, glitch.

Even if you want to keep the cute ball-shape thing, I think you could make it look at least a little more like a bulb and still pull that off. Right now you can misread your sprite as a little dark blue worm guy in a big helmet, or all sorts of other things. The metal part really needs reworking too.
edit: also, you could try sticking in some sort of mechanism to make it more clearly a light bulb (08-18-2011, 01:32 PM)SirZadaben Wrote: I am keeping the body shape the same unless there is a major flaw in it. But that's the thing. It's the entire body is a flaw of it's own. I can understand why your trying to make it look less realistic, but you're doing it in a way where it's just some ball on a metal ice cream cone. If you really want to improve this, then stop having you're head up you're butt and actually try to make it look more like a light bulb! We've said it so many times I am wondering if you are actually giving a damn at the moment. You've done it once and I think if you work on it, it will be fine.
@Doi, Glitch, Starsock, etc.
Alright, I will try it this way, but I am doubtful as to it's overall result. ![]()

My problem is your character.
It's really, boring. Maybe flex your creative thinking process. ![]() There's different ways to use a lightbulb, especially not just having it stand perfectly straight. Try something a bit more original.
