Changes to the Sprite Discussion board

There's a sense of elitism (not with the idea itself, but rather how people will interpret it) that comes by dividing the discussion board between the novices and whatnot.

Here's an idea. Since so many people that stop by tSR are new to spriting, maybe if we set up a Novice Sprite Forum, we could get more members and keep the rest of the board organized, teach new spriters, etc.

And for those of you that think those newcomers wouldn't know where to stop by first, and just post wherever, keep in mind, those that don't know where to post will either learn eventually, or just leave. Those who really want to learn and stuff would go to that forum. How bout it?

The workshops I was talking about earlier are aimed at novices, since it would introduce the members to different aspects of spriting (and ripping) and more specifically a style, which they can use as a reference to build up on. It makes things more organized, even if there are a dozen threads with more or less obscure edits (for which we as helpers have to look up references ourselves most of the time, at least showing how to get into style isn't too hard) underneath.

Also, what do you mean by teaching new spriters (ie what would you do exactly)?

The only thing that we can set up for novice spriters are tutorials.
Aside from giving criticism the best we can that's the only thing we can do.

@Chris2Balls - Yeah, the workshops do pull off that job pretty well, but why not combine the workshops and a tutorial forum into one forum, where people could post spriting tutorials. I could obviously help out in a workshop, or even post some tutorials, videos, etc.

@Cshad - Such a forum would not be a requirement, and people would be able to exit once they feel they're ready.

@Diogalesu - Good point. Constructive Critisism does seem like all we could do, my plan was to just have it more organized. Every peice of work, professional or not, needs C+C, this was just to be more geared for novices, so that way they don't get bashed by the more experienced spriters who would discourage them from taking a shot at spriting.

Far as my input goes for a novice board, we don't really need it.

ignoring the whole elitism deal (And lets be honest, with the mindset of this community it's unavoidable.), I think it's pointless since I don't see many newbies posting there if it is made. It's fine for someone who's new to spriting to post in the normal sprite board granted they don't have an absolute terrible attitude towards criticism.

If this is all there is to discuss then, I can't see what else should be suggested.
