Is anyone any good at translating SNES era RPG text? I've gone as far as I possibly can in this game so far and now I'm at this point where there's all these places that seem like they'd serve as the next places to go, but every time I try to enter one I get a string of dialogue between my party members and I have NO idea why I can't enter. For example:
I REALLY want to progress, and if I could get the SLIGHTEST hint about what I might be able to do it would make it really worthwhile. I've already gotten this much of the enemies of this game captured, and I really want to keep going.
We could run away
Leave behind anything paper
Not knowing where we're going to stay
When there's no Mondays
You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
When I'm in your arms, I feel safe from harm and sorrow too
You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
But most of all, nothing couldn't be solved when I'm with you

FFFFF, damn spheres.
Gors, after I get back from work would you be willing to translate a few more dialogues like this? There's like 5 or 6 more. =X
Also Dazz, the game is called Burai - Hachigyoku No Yuushi Densetsu, which I also don't know what that means. I also don't remember how I found it, but once I found out that the game is actually pretty easy I've just been breezing through it. I almost broke my monitor though when I realized the next part I had to progress through required me to ask questions to EVERY character in this one town, and I had to ask everybody everything EVERY time I got a little bit further through it. I think I was trying to solve a crime or something.
Also I have NO idea why they need to look for the spheres, because VERY CLEARLY it was the Spheres that brought all eight of these people together through EIGHT individual stories! UGH! Unless some bastard took them away from me. Damn them.

1-Hey, if we don't find the entrance, jet's just destroy the wall!
2-Don't say dumb things!
3-You need to think on a better way to overcome it while you look for other sacred objects!
1-'Gonza', don't lie to me. The '?' sphere is shining again
2-But there's nothing here. I think it shines for other things too
3-Like 'flash-flash'?
4-Yea, like 'flash-flash', so let's get going already
1-That's weird. The sphere's shining...
2-It's a mistake. A mistake. Let's stop this and give up
3-It's mysterious... indeed mysterious...
1-I'm sure this blue sphere should shine
2-But, where are you going to look for it?
3-You got me. There's nothing around here. Let's give up
(what the fuck this must be the most giving-up hero ever)
And these are two places where I actually DID stuff. I just wonder if they are giving any hints. Probably not.
1-I'll smash the hell out of 'Bydoo''s guts, and then I'll come play with ya again!
2-Hey, we don't need to enter this cave again, right?

Thanks Gors. Although it seems like the translations didn't do much, it actually does confirm for me that the game is meant to be very linear. The first time I went to the cave for example it didn't work, but after I beat the other place and went back they went back in again. Also that string of events I discovered also opened up the pyramid, but somehow even after tedious overleveling I seem to be UNDERleveled for this section.
Thanks again.
(Also, in response to that particular hero always giving up, his story started out with him in prison with all those gimpy policemen. That's probably how he ended up in there. "I GIVE UP!")
I probably picked the worst time to make requests for translations (seeing as Gors is away and he did all my translations before), but if anyone has a keen eye for translations I'd love some help with a few. Just the names of bosses from Street Fighter 2010. Some of them are named in the english manual, but it's only about 3 of them:
Sand Worm is actually 'Thunder Worm', 'Mammy' is indeed 'Mummy' and 'Nidosandman' is like that; it probably is a mix of the words 'Nido' (Needle, transcribed in japanese) and 'Sandman'.
snap 0001: It's a message from the Headquarters!
It's been transferred to your receiver!
snap 0002: Mobilization Order No. 256863
It's a secret, so listen!
The inventor of the End-Of-The-Century Dead-End bomb,
Professor Plum, was kidnapped by the Evil Organization,
Lawbreakers. They're barricaded at the foot of the magic
mountain of Demonshead and are forcing us to surrender!
We're full of bombs! Those attacks are worthless!
The scout Joe will not come back...
The only one who can find the enemy inside their imponent
base and prevent the explosion from happening is you, Bang!
I'll leave this to you, you heroic electric guy. Good luck
Secret Squadron Sabretiger
Commander Hasslewine
snap 0003: Mary! I'm sorry!
The date will need to wait!
snap 0004: Good luck!
snap 0005: Shit, you're a tough guy, huh? Where's your Headquarters
located at?
snap 0006: Don't be hasty trying to find the Headquarters!
Even if you hate it, you'll need to defeat the 7
leaders first!
snap 0007: It's no use going there without collecting the leaders'
King Medals! Things got fun now, huh
snap 0008: I am the Master Leader of the 'Rowbreakers', Jesus!
I'll be waiting you at the Backer Desert's fortress!
snap 0009: -Meanwhile, at the enemy's Headquarters...
Professor Plum! Did you wake up? Make the 'Dead-End'
already
snap 0010: What the heck is that? I don't know what's it.
snap 0011: Gahahaha! Too late! You've been hypnotized now!
snap 0012: Ooooh crap, no way!
snap 0013: Are you the hero from 'Mulbars' village's Legend?
snap 0014: Eh! I'm not a Famicom! I'm Bang, from the Secret Squadron!
Well, I was going to sail in this mud boat, leave it to me!
snap 0015: Go meet the Elder! Maybe he'll be of help!
snap 0016: It's better not to climb the Valley of 'Yukaimon', on
route 13.
snap 0017: What!
snap 0018: I might be weird but I'm a leader! Don't underestimate me!
I won't care if I make you cry!
snap 0019: Also all your friends were defeated and thrown off a cliff
by Jesus and his cohorts! You're next!
snap 0020: Oh no, it's the scout Joe! Shit!
snap 0021: *gameplay*
snap 0022: *gameplay*
snap 0023: There's a gold mine on the opposite bank! If I get 'GOLD',
I can exchange it for yens at route 22's Gold Casino.
snap 0024: Hey! Thanks!
snap 0025: So, you are 'Big Bang'! Are you really strong?
snap 0026: Ya'll learn it soon! Also is the Prof. ok?
snap 0027: He's making the bomb so we're taking good care of him!
I'm 'Gajara'! The scar on my forehead is serious stuff!
Come on!
snap 0028: Ugh! Ouch! Something's trying to enter my head! Eek
snap 0029: What? It went back to normal! What was that?
snap 0030: Oh, a fairy!
snap 0031: My name is 'Faysha', please save the Elder! He's been
captured by the monster, 'Lawdon'!
snap 0032: The Elder!
snap 0033: I opened the path to Elder's Valley, below the waterfall
at route 6! Plase save him!
snap 0034: It's a message from my buddies!
snap 0035: I'll send you cash
Your girlfriend Mary is safe
Fight without worry
From Jake
snap 0036: Oh gosh! You didn't need to worry about that...
snap 0037: Looks like this statue is the entrance!
snap 0038: Are you Lawdon? I bet the Elder's giving you trouble, huh
snap 0039: The heck? I'm going to suck all his aura and live longer!
Go away!
snap 0040: Sorry for making you wait, I'll save you!
snap 0041: I've heard it from Faysha!
snap 0042: Really? She's really helpful, I'll give you an ability as
a gift. It's the 'Issunboushi''s technique. If you don't have
it, you can't leave this valley.
NOTE: Issunboushi is a character from Japanese mythology. He is a midget
as tall as a thumb, and despite his size, he was able to defeat a
Japanese demon, Oni, and save the princess.
snap 0043: As soon as you get more 'GUTS', you'll be able to use it more.
Now let me regain my strength...
snap 0044: Thanks!
snap 0045: A letter!
snap 0046: "Bang!
I got your chick
Give up
Route 31 - The Pandam"
snap 0047: Whaat! Mary's been captured? No way!
snap 0048: 'Killer Salmon'! Are there 7 medals?
snap 0049: ...that's what they say, but not necessarily all leaders have
it, I think... There might be more of those...
snap 0050: Then how many medals are there?
snap 0051: Well, I'm done for now, don't worry about this. I don't take
responsibility if you are disintegrated!
snap 0052: A message!
snap 0053: The plan has ended
Everyone meet at the Demonshead's opposite side
From the Commander
snap 0054: Hey! What's the purpose of those King Medals? It's just
a lie to delay me, right?
snap 0055: I ended telling it to one of your friends, it's better to
hear it from him.
snap 0056: This 'Mushrooman' will present the same stairway to Heaven
your friend got!
snap 0057: 'Pii-tan!'
snap 0058: Yo, please, get the 'God's Eye' gem, at the other side of
the magma, to me! With that, the door to the treasure
connected to this well will open!
snap 0059: Treasure? The heck are you saying, you just look like a
crazy guy, go away
snap 0060: I'll be waiting you at route 27.
snap 0061: So you've come, huh! Get the 'God's Eye'! I'll give you
half the treasure!
snap 0062: Holy crud, seriously? Treasure! The suit can take lava...
Uuugh, the temptaion is killing me...
snap 0063: If ya get it, meet me at the well at Route 15.
snap 0064: Joe!! You were safe!
snap 0065: Dang, I'm frustrated! Jesus beat me up senseless, the guy's
really tough! You must absolutely collect all those medals!
snap 0066: Do you know about it's secret?
snap 0067: Even if the Dead-End is activated, those seven medals can
deactivate it! That's the 'stopper'. I'm fine now, go already!
snap 0068: Joe! Hold tight! I'll come get you later!
snap 0069: No way! You were still there?
snap 0070: Hold on my shoulders, bro! Hm?
snap 0071: ..........
snap 0072: I ended up dying! I'll give you my POWER and money,
please fight for me...
snap 0073: Oh, you! Ya got me!
snap 0074: Mary! Are you okay? Where's Pandam?
snap 0075: Bang! Please surrender!
snap 0076: The hell are you saying! You're the Secret Squadron's clerk!
snap 0077: Not if I do this!
snap 0078: You killed your love!
snap 0079: Too bad, I knew you were false the time I saw you!
snap 0080: Damn, I expected that. 'GATTAI' warrior 'The' Pandam's
plan failed!
snap 0081: So you are Pandam! You're just bears! Since you're two bears,
does that mean I get two medals?
snap 0082: What's that? I don't have it. Oh crap, it's because Jesus
doesn't trust us.
snap 0083: Oh, right! How do I go to Jesus's Backer Desert?
snap 0084: You gotta enter route 15's well.....Wait, do you think you
won already? Oh, you!!
snap 0085: Here's the door to the treasure! Use the 'God's Eye'!
snap 0086: Beep! You're wrong! I'm 'Bapman'! This is not the
Headquarters, the Headquarters is 'Demonshead'!
snap 0087: So it's the summit!
snap 0088: Oh! I said it! I'll not let you escape alive!
snap 0089: There is not any Headquarters at the Great Wall!
snap 0090: The clouds are dissolving... AAH! The Headquarters is up there!
snap 0091: Bapman! Don't escape!
snap 0092: So you've come here! But if you don't have the medals, you
can't continue!
snap 0093: Boss Jesus's not home! Come back later
snap 0094: It's the 'Devil Tower'! Where's the entrance?
snap 0095: Gahahaha! You've been fooled! The door to 'Fuumaden' has been
opened! It's the resurrection of the Demon!
snap 0097: I tried to take over your mind before but I failed. Now, this
world will be ours! I'll gather more demons at Route 39's
Devil Tower!
snap 0098: So you tried to enter my head! And then you possessed Pii-tan
so you could act like a normal person! Heheh! That's really
demon-worthy!
snap 0099: Leave those demons away for a while. Don't approach Devil
Tower!
snap 0100: Holy crap! It can't be, Jesus is defeated!
snap 0101: Shit, a demon suddenly appeared and beat me up! They also took
my medal...
snap 0102: The demons have come! that's it! The Devil Tower is nearby!
What I'm supposed to do now!
snap 0103: Faysha! Help!
snap 0104: Uh, no! I'm her older sister, Leticia...
snap 0105: The demons have come! I can't defeat them no matter how many
lives I have!
snap 0106: Eeh! What a mess! Please visit the Elder as soon as possible!
snap 0107: Elder! The demons have come!
snap 0108: Wh-what! I still can't move! Well, first, you'll need a gem
called 'God's...'
snap 0109: I already have that! To be honest, the demons escaped because
of me...
snap 0110: Oh gosh! Get this gem and use it in front of the 'Giant Heart',
at Route 40, to get the Apollon's Sword. Go!
snap 0111: I'll be able to defeat the demons this way, right?
snap 0112: There's the Gaint Heart! Leave it to me!
snap 0113: Hey! Gimme the medal back! Take a blow of the Apollon's Sword!
snap 0114: Irck! Apollon!
snap 0115: Oh! It's a 'Demon Egg'
snap 0116: Professor Plum!
snap 0117: Sorry! I completed the bomb... Use the Micro Recorder.
What about the medals?
snap 0118: I got them! What about the combination...
snap 0119: Ooh! That's it, come closer! Hurry!
snap 0120: Show me your boss already!
snap 0121: Damn, I am the boss, 'MadGazer'! I underestimated you.
snap 0122: You mistreated the Prof.! You already set the bomb, right!
snap 0123: I'm the boss, I do what I want! Bring it on!
snap 0124: I lost. Is your name 'Genki'? Do you know me?
snap 0125: Whaat! You're the old man who lived next door! No way!
snap 0126: I didn't want to be a regular old man anymore... it's The End.
If I die the Dead-End will be triggered. Let's meet again in
Hell!
snap 0127: What! Where's the Dead-End!
snap 0128: A-an Extraterrestrial?
snap 0129: I came from 'Ales'! It was a mistake to let humans populate
the Earth. You're destroying the nature and going towards ruin.
snap 0130: I'll destroy humans along with your planet! You'll be extinct
by your own craft! That's all I have to say.
snap 0131: What the hell! You were manipulating the Boss! I'll deactivate
the bomb! I'll protect the Earth!
snap 0132: Ooh! Found it! Please, don't say I'm late...
snap 0133: For mankind, the progress of Science was a double-edged sword.
Advanced civilization and destruction are opposite sides of
the same coin...
Destroying the Earth's environment, scattering radioactive
waste, humans don't stop developing weapons with great
potential to harm nature so they can kill each other.
The correct voice is always drowned out and the irreparable
actions are continued.
I think that humans are the only who drown in this false
feeling of peace.
And then, the Mass Destruction bomb, Dead-End, wrapped the
Earth with its destruction.
July 199X... Finally, humans got themselves the tit by tat
by the civilization...
snap 0134: Yeah! I did it! I protected the Earth in a place no one knows!
Incredible! Uh? 'Ales''s voice...
snap 0135: We'll never come back to Earth again. You've proved yourselves
that you can revive the Earth! I count on you all, farewell!
snap 0136: Hmm! I guess humans should reflect about this. I got it!
They're extraterrestrials that I don't know if they're good
or bad!
snap 0137: Elder! You were alright!
snap 0138: The evil has been sealed again! Don't you want to be my
apprentice?
snap 0139: No! I was thinking to use the adventure I had as a base for
my Famicom game!
snap 0140: Well, too bad! Ok ok! It's good to be at peace and able to
play Famicom again! Hahaha! I'll send you to your friends'
place.
snap 0141: Commander! The enemies are dead! I also stopped the bomb!
But the Professor...
snap 0142: Don't Worry! The Professor fled safe and sound, and I saved him
from the bottom of the pit!
snap 0143: Ick! Really? So that means that Professor was a decoy meant to
explode alongside with me! Phew!
snap 0144: Though I really didn't think you'd pull this out! Incredible!
Incredible!
snap 0145: What are you talking about, Commander! Bang! Welcome home!
I'm so glad you're ok.
snap 0146: Mary, it was a really absurd fight! Also I realised a thing
that we should protect no matter what!
snap 0147: Eh?
snap 0148: Bang! Looks like this mission was great experience for you!
You need to save the real justice between all this mess!
snap 0149: Yes! We can't let the progress of Science lead the Earth to
destruction!
snap 0150: I'll do this before it's too late! LOVE AND PEACE!
snap 0151: PS: Those three fcompletely forgot about Joe. Well, whatever!
snap 0152: Hey you! Where ya going? It's dangerous that way!
snap 0153: I'm 'Pii-tan', adventurer! I do things when I feel like it!
Oh yes, there was a fairy crying near Route 17. See ya!
A lot of the translations are the same, but it's the little things that I really wanted to look into, and you've really shed a lot of light on certain things that I really wanted to know. The main things are:
-The Samurai Boss guy had no backstory in the english version. It's nice to know his motivations, contrived though they may be. He also had no name. other than "The Boss".
-"Killer Salmon" is probably where the english translation got the name Shark.
-In the english version Faysha is the only fairy, even though the character portrait changes. Minor thing.
-It confirmed names that were mentioned in varying ways in other media, like the enemies being called the Lawbreakers, the Secret Squadron Sabre Tiger and the doomsday device being called "Dead End", which is an awesome name for a bomb.
-The manual called the commander "Winestuff", but I like Hasslewine so much better. Like "Hassle" and "Whine". Though he seemed pretty amiable to me..
-The aliens originally didn't have a home planet or name, it's nice to have something.
-Even though it's only twice, it's nice to have someone actually refer to "Demonhead" in the story.
-Tiny TINY subtleties like how Pandar tells you it's Tom Guycot who doesn't trust him, instead of just "his boss".
-Tom Guycot = Jesus
Thanks so much, Gors. When I get to work on what I'm working on, would it be too much trouble to send you the menu screens as well? Just some small stuff I wanted to check on.
