Okay I'm gonna make this simple and direct it to the original poster so that we don't derail anymore
You can do this style fine. That's nice and all. But if you want to improve as an artist, then you need to change what you do. Your art will stagnate and then what's the point? Shoot, you sure don't have to give up FE entirely, but you don't have to do -only- FE either. If you just do the same thing over and over again, then there's not much to C+C on, and it becomes a showcase. tSR is for critique, not showcasing. So please, if someone like meta gives you C+C, do not flat out ignore it, whether you agree or not. That's entirely rude and disrespectful. I mean, I draw goofy faces all the time, and I can draw a decent body in a certain position, but you make me try to do harder poses or other things and suddenly it looks like I've lost 2 years of experience. That's not good. It's tough and it makes me feel dumb, but I know those are the parts I have to work on hardest.

Frankly, I like his sprites.
And frankly, I think he should keep them up. If he wants to expand, then I'm pretty sure he will; it's not in our place to force him if he doesn't want to yet. But until then, can we at least support Nayr and help him along? Even if you are trying to be helpful in suggesting that he broaden his horizon, there's a way to go about this without sounding like a total douche (no offense to anyone). Hey Nayr, got any more? Thanked by: Gaia

This got incredibly out of hand. This thread really should just be about Nayr's sprites and feedback directly related to them. Arguments about whether or not one should expand their style can be had in their own thread.
I'll be splitting this and editing this post with the link to the new thread in a second. Edit: New Thread: C+C And Style Discussion (Split from Nayr's Thread) Also, Koopaul's Related Thread: Why We Sprite? Now, please carry on, keeping this thread on topic. (08-19-2012, 10:41 PM)Meta Wrote: exactly. there is no point in posting your stuff here since basically you're not even trying to improve or at least expand on the subject. hell, you're claiming you can do fully "custom" protraits yet you're bound to do them inthe exact same perspective without any kind of chance to use that "knowledge" into something else -otherwise it would not look "fire emblem-esque" thus defeating the only gimmick your shit has -honestly, fire emblem itself is quite simpleton for its art, being rather functional than anything else. its the animations of the character units that made it stand out. What makes a sprite custom is that you create it without using any existing pieces. The Raven, Nayr, and Anna sprits are all drawn from scratch, the very definition of the term. Just because I stick with a certain style doesn't make it any less so. Nor do you or anybody except myself have the right to dictate how I should use my ability and where I'm allowed to display my creations. I pretty much always work with FE related projects so I stick with what I like. If you or anybody else doesn't like that, though luck. Since this apparently sparked a big argument while I was away(I took a break from spriting since I had just done a LOT of work with Arcfalchion and Blazer for The Last Promise, and did half of my generic set) focusing on other matters(Bioware's games can be addictive) I'll end this argument with this reply. _______________________________________________________- As for sprites. I've only done one recently. I got a whim to enter the weekly splice contest on Serenes Forest Forums and made an entry. The selection of materials for use was Pent(Count of Regulay who first appears in the desert and Archsage Athos' pupil), Sain(womanizing cavalier in green armor, third unit available in game), and Jerme(Black Fang assassin boss from one of the variants of chapter 26, Pale Flower of Darkness.) It needs some work, but the splice contests has rules about heavy customing/cleaning so I respected the parameters. Thanked by: Gaia, Lexou Duck
