I believe it's a carpet but I agree it is a little hard to read at first glance.

different version. there are things about each i like better. probably not done at all, probably going to mix them together or something.
the bottom-bottom is beneath floor, the 5 or so pixel wide band is the floor itself. no carpet.

The second version is instantly readable, but the first one just looks so nice~

Although, I had no problem reading the first pass in the first place

I like the second version better, the bricks give more variety to the room imo

also on both, i read the gray band as the actual floor, because we can see the light coming from the windows

God, this is just gorgeous to look at. I love the way you handle cracked and ruined textures with your highlights and shadows.

I don't have any problems with what you've posted, but I think it would be cool if next you tackled something more ornate, maybe throne-room ish?, with brass/gold/carpets/wood/etc. I think Castlevania does that but I'm more interested because I know you'd pull it off with aplomb.

I will probably get to some rooms like that, but there won't be too many in the game i'm doing; sorry. I've been getting more interested in trying out something with a pattern, something vaguely royal, so the next background I do might be along those lines! So, keep an eye out.

In any case;

It's technically complete, in the sense that everything is done; but I don't feel done with it. I don't feel entirely satisfied. I'm going to start looking for some areas I could improve and refine them up, maybe add some more/other kinds of details. Any C+C will be appreciated!

I don't know how fixable this is but the jagged white edges on the roof stick out to me.

Umm that's kind of obvious, but I don't know if it would look odd since it's techinally "floating" above or in front of the other walls.

Reshaded the lower part so I wouldn't really need much in the way of aa. its a little dirtier and darker. i just feel like there needs to be something else in that darker space between the arches and the ceiling, and maybe some space on the left and right of the double pillars to improve the composition a little.
