Legend of Zelda: WÜnd Waker (Wii U)
#31
I didn't mean just you though, Tongue I just think that it can fit in quite well with the game, maybe other areas of the game will look different. I'm curious how the inside of dungeons will look TBH.

Also while they really do need to add in those last two dungeons, I really think they won't and this will probably just be an HD port. Unsure

imagine they updated jet set radio hd the same way except got rid of all the cel shading

the main appeal of the game is gone
the amazing atmosphere is gone

this is what just happened

It's really not though. The cartoony atmosphere is still there. You talk like we have realistic textures and environment now which is completely not the case. The cartoon feel is still there. Ok I love the cel-shading as much as you do, believe me, but the new look is refreshing. I'd rather see it like this than just have Wind Waker again with updated ratio and texturers. Would have been great, but seeing that this is a possibility, I find that it would have been way more boring.

Ironically this is the Wind Waker release ALL OVER AGAIN. "Oh no, look at these cartoony graphics, this is killing Zelda" "You just took the awesome Zelda art direction and threw it away!!!" *Everyone loves the game after release the end*

Edit: To be honest though, now I can understand those who are complaining and kinda agree, I loved the cel-shading and yes it kinda sucks that it's gone (at least for now), but it's not like, the worst thing ever.

The cartoony models and textures weren't the only thing making it look cartoony. It might still have that simplified look because the models are the same, but the cartoony feeling is definitely gone. This is more "early Xbox 360 game trying to look like a cartoon" instead. Like Kameo or something.

uhhhhh

Quote:which is not really a valid point because the Gamecube one just didn't do that because it couldn't handle it?
...what?
Who said anything about that?
...Are you making that claim? How can you possibly know that that's why the gamecube one didn't do it?

I'm /pretty/ sure that the gamecube one had a specific artistic vision which is why they used the cel shading in the first place. Not because it couldn't handle bloom or motion blur. To remove the cel shading is to completely remove what gave the game most of its charm.

I mean, sure, it still has the cartoony models and textures (don't get me wrong, I love the higher polycount and the HD texture update is great) but if you completely change how the entire game looks then nothing has the same feel anymore.
Instead of feeling like a living cartoon, it now has Skyward Sword's overly-bright, overly-saturated graphics with a heaping help of bloom and motion blur.
Cartoons do not have bloom and motion blur. (Okay, I realize that's debatable with some anime and also cartoons made in flash, but I know you get my point.)

It's like how they included Toon Link in brawl. I mean, sure, the overall model looked the same and it was recognizable as Toon Link, but it still looked radically different (and thus less cartoony) than the original, did it not? And on top of that, the weirdly-cartoony character being put into a realistic-looking game looked strange.

Now it's just same thing happening in reverse.
The realistic lighting clashes with the cartoony environment, and it makes both of them look worse as a result.
The lighting should work together with the artistic direction of the game and not take it in an entirely different, worse-looking direction.

I'm still kind of leaning towards the fact that most of the graphics in this game look like play-doh with the shading.

Yeah I kind of agree with vupert's posts about how the cartoony feel of the original game is gone in regards to all the shading. Although when I look at it twice it almost reminds me of a claymation movie, but with shading that doesn't really work with the game.

Who knows, maybe it won't be all that bad. Still I would have preferred it if nintendo actually tried to make the game's graphics look close to the artwork for the game.

think about it for a second:

Wouldn't you much rather have shading on the game's models that is more close to this rather than the play-doh looking graphics? I certainly would.

My Gamestop sells it for... wait... no they don't carry Gamecube games (at least ones that are worth anything) anymore.

A-anyway, I'm also going to go ahead and voice my dislike for the way the graphics currently look, but I've already gotten into heated debates about this crap already so I don't want to discuss it until they release something a bit more substantial closer to release.

I'm just curious what Floormasters and Phantom Ganon are going to look like, heh.

Don't know about all Gamestops, but the ones near me are selling GCN games at 75% off sticker price. Anybody looking to pick up this game should get to it now.

I want to see the game in motion first before I pass judgment. Also someplace at night, like the Forsaken Fortress.

I'll probably get it anyway, assuming I have a WiiU by that point.

Personally I think the new graphics look pretty good. Comparing it to the original graphics is like comparing apples and oranges though, they both have different perks. I never actually played Wind Waker all the way through. I only ever fought the final bosses for a friend, so I don't really have a nostalgia factor making me want the old graphics vs the new. What I really want to see is the whole world in motion, and some of the more graphically intense bosses and enemies to see how they look in the new style.
