music is very important to me
i mostly listen to indie/alternative stuff but that spans a lot of genres so it's mainly electronica i guess

Top 10 artists in no particular order:
Chromatics
Crystal Castles
Beach House
The Strokes
New Order
Radiohead
The Shangri-Las
The Smiths
Pixies
The Raveonettes

I actually really liked Random Access Memories. the first couple of tracks were a bit slow but the Giorgio Moroder track was fucking excellent and really opened up the album. I love the Julian Casablancas track, both Pharell tracks are great and Doin' it Right is too. My guitar's two frets too short to play the solo in Instant Crush though which is the most annoying thing 'cause i can play right up to that climax but not reach it. Frustration.
I agree with bastard about Grimes, she is an awesome artist. I've only got one friend who listens to her at the moment, still need to convert the rest. Vanessa blew my mind back in 2011 and that got me into her earlier stuff. Geidi Primes is a great album. Rosa, avi and Venus in Fleurs are my fave tracks on it. Her new stuff is rad too and i do recommend Visions. She did a cool collab with Kreayshaun and Blood Diamond as well which was pretty cool; Don't Smoke my Blunt, Bitch. Check it out

A selection of great albums:
New Order - Substance
Chromatics - Kill for Love
Atoms for Peace - Amok
Arcade Fire - Funeral
The Horrors - Primary Colours
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers
Summer Camp - Welcome to Condale
The Raveonettes - Lust Lust Lust

So unless CHVRCHES or Grimes release OTTER perfection of an album, Queens of The Stone Age's '...Like Clockwork' is the must/absolute/no other choice Album of the Year. So amazing, quirky, radular, and outstanding.

my favorite genres are funk and jazz, but i really listen to every genre (and not "some of everything", really i listen to a LOT of music)

if i had to state some of my favorite bands/artists i'd say
Jamiroquai
Casiopea
The Seatbelts
Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
John Coltrane
Incognito
Patrice Rushen

actually my tastes are limited to: If the chord pattern is interesting, i'll love the song

also yeah shamelessly bragging here but i can easily get along with anyone music-wise because of the fact that i regularly listen to at least 3 artists in every genre

Ahh crystal castles are fucking mental. I saw them live when Alice was on crutches but she was still so wild! that was pretty soon after they released the second album, such a good night

i've been listening to beach house since 2010 i guess. I heard the song Master of None and absolutely loved it. Then i gave Teen Dream a listen and it was awesome; Take Care is such a good song it's unbelievable. Bloom was so great too. I only got into their early work quite recently and it doesn't disappoint. All of their albums are just excellent and their short film/music video Forever Still was pretty cool and they got Ray Wise to act in the video for Wishes. I love Ray Wise so much. He was sooo good in Twin Peaks.

The Smiths are excellent also even though Morrissey's a bit of a twat. The first two albums are incredible, i've listened to them so so many times. Meat is Murder is alright i guess, Barbarism begins at Home and Meat is Murder are probably my favourite tracks on it. It's nowhere near as good as the first two though. The same for Strangeways too, How soon is Now is banging but it's the only notable song on the album.

DAVID LYNCH'S NEW SONG!!! (non-spotify link)

I like it a lot. It's more like the stuff he did with Julee Cruise when he was making Twin Peaks.

------

Washed Out have got a new album out this summer and it could be good!
they were in with the chillwave scene in 2009 along with Toro Y Moi and Neon Indian when they released their Life of Leisure EP which had some really great tracks. Feel It All Around and New Theory are probably my favourite. The distant vocals and long reverb just give that lazy summer day kind of feeling which is delightful.

This is a really cool session they did. I prefer this version of the song to the album version. Those rich keyboard tones are much nicer than the kind of wavey tremolo strings in the album version.
Here's the teaser they've released for the new album:
From what's there it sounds like it's influenced by Gold Panda a bit. The kind of gamelan-y tones towards the end and the rhythm is quite like Gold Panda.
