I don't see it as a sport in the traditional sense, but I do see the competitive play of it that might make it a sport to you.

I'd count the inevitable all-nighters, mental training, and pressing 9000 keys in 1/10 of a millisecond (may be slightly exaggerated unless its Starcraft) as physical exertion. You're physically exerting yourself to do something. You also need a lot of skill to play them (can confirm, suck at Starcraft, CS : GO, League, DOTA, etc.) and these games have communities that form teams that compete against each other, for the entertainment of others.
