What's up with these users?
#1
Whenever I browse this site, I tend to check the bar at the bottom that shows who is currently online. As of late, though, I'm beginning to see users who are already banned from this site. Since they are more or less incapable of returning, I find it a little odd that they would do this. Also, since I'm curious as to why they're banned in the first place, I decided to take a look at their forum history to see what went wrong with them. Oddly enough, they had no posts whatsoever! Users like Aeroldglada, Appoitili, and wefweaceWeict had no forum history prior to being banned and it looks like they were only banned on the spot.

I'm very curious, though. Why exactly where these users banned in the first place? My first guess would be banned users trying to use alternate accounts, but an admin saw through the ruse before anything happened; however, judging by how nonsensical their names are, I would also assume that they are bots of some sort. Since I have no clues to find out the answer for myself and no one else I've seen so far asked a similar question, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Spambots. They register with the soul intent to post advertisements and links to viruses. We ban them so they can't do it anymore, and they still return but can't post, because they're banned. Their systems are crap, so they don't realise that they're banned. If they do realise, they register a new account, and we just ban it again.

There are programs that post crap on forums. These are colloquially know as "bots". They aren't real peoples.

I had a suspicion that they were bots, but I didn't want to jump to conclusions like I usually do.

Thank you for clearing this up for me, Dazz and Snegri. I wonder if any spambot creator would figure this out and knock it off. It's very unlikely it would happen, though, but the thought of knowing that at least one spambot creator isn't dense would help me sleep better at night.

The names of banned members looks like there is a large stick skewered through name. Much less violent than large stick skewered through body. Is good alternative!

I know, right? The names these bots have chosen are a total train wreck! I guess the creator of these bots forgot to program a means of creating good usernames... Then again, though, if they remembered to do that, we'd be stuck choosing names scraped from the bottom of the barrel! *laughs*
