Suspicious activity in the Creativity Board
#1
Hey guys!

When I was checking out the Creativity Board today, I found two threads that don't really add up.

http://www.vg-resource.com/thread-24589.html
For this first one, it is by a user called MrWhiteRoom. There is nothing written by this user in the post, but he did post a video. Considering that this user just shown up today without explaining who he is and only posted this video, I find it extremely suspicious. For one thing, the video he uploaded belongs to a relatively popular YouTube account that has been making videos for some time. Considering that I don't see any clues on how this user is the same user from YouTube, it makes this new user look like he is trying to plagiarize someone's work/advertise a channel he might have nothing to do with. What do you guys think?

As for this other thread, even though this user explains that it is his video, there are still some factors that don't add up. If this user as been around since early October of last year, how come he didn't create any posts until now? I checked the YouTube account that has all his videos and several of them are far older than the post he has made on this site (or his account for that matter). Considering that he already had content to show, there really isn't no reason for him to take this long to submit a post that showcases his work. Even though he claims that he is indeed this user, there is some factors that feel like they don't add up. Besides, how could we know for certain that this guy isn't just claiming he's the creator of the videos just so he could steal the praise that the real creator deserves.

I realize that I might be overreacting about nothing, but considering that I ran into a similar situation like this before, I didn't want to take any chances. You see, a few months ago, I found a thread that has this video you see below you.
Thinking that the poster of this thread created the video, I praised him for it; however, the thread was shortly deleted afterwards without a trace. I didn't know why, but I think the reason it was deleted in the first place was due to a similar reason the two recently posted threads are there. To avoid the same mistake I did on the thread featuring that CGI Mushroom Kingdom video, I decided to look before I leap and do a little investigating to make sure it adds up.

Just because someone doesn't post right after they join doesn't mean anything. Lots of people join and forget about it. So Brando (considering he's linking a video by The Amazing Brand0) may be legit and you are most likely overreacting.

The other one does seem a little suspicious if by virtue of one username linking a video from another username. But I dug around and the maker of that video (http://www.youtube.com/user/ThatsMrRobertson) has done something called The White Room. So they may be the same person.
Doofenshmirtz: This is a little bit awkward but have you seen my escape jet keys? (Perry nods) What, you have? Well that's great! So where are they? (Perry looks away) You won't tell me? Is this because you don't speak or are you just being a jerk?

True, but since I don't have the ability to track IP addresses (or as far as I know anyway), I wasn't entirely sure if they are the same people. After that one video topic featuring the CGI Mushroom Kingdom getting deleted and an incident involving one of Vinn's alts, I didn't want to take any chances until I know for certain. Even though you raise some good points, a lot of what is known about these two users are done at face value instead of matching IP addresses.

The IPs aren't even close to each other and both accounts are legit if you actually look into them.

Just to add a bit to what Vipershark said, while it is indeed best to avoid jumping to conclusions, bringing something you're concerned about to the attention of the staff is completely fine. What isn't fine, however, is doing it in public. These types of reports are best left to PMs and the report feature so as not to unnecessarily call out members for no reason. Just keep that in mind in the future.
