Can't find the attachment box

Well... after PMing Petie about this issue, I was told that there was a box below the reply text box. I look there and see... nothing. Absolutely nothing. Cry

That box doesn't show up on my computer. Is it theme-specific, by chance?

It shouldn't be. Are you clicking on the New Reply button and actually using the full reply page instead of the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the page?

Edit: Oh, actually, it seems that attachment posting is disabled on the normal user groups. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not so I'll look into it. Sorry for the confusion!

Yep. Right below the Post/etc. buttons is the thread review. Nothing else.

See my edit above. I'm looking into why it's disabled now.

OK. Looks like it's up, so I'll try putting an attachment in this:

Yup. Not sure why it was disabled but it's there now and appears to be working.

The use of attachments is discouraged. In order to show your sprites, upload the image file to an image hoster (like Imgur, Minus, Dropbox or one of the countless others). You can embed your image by using IMG tags (example below). For really large images (like ones that stretch the page), it's advisable to put them in SPOILER tags.
Doofenshmirtz: This is a little bit awkward but have you seen my escape jet keys? (Perry nods) What, you have? Well that's great! So where are they? (Perry looks away) You won't tell me? Is this because you don't speak or are you just being a jerk?

This also implies that the image is already uploaded somewhere else... what if we don't have accounts there?

I'm pretty sure you don't need accounts on Imgur and Minus.

Discouraging the use of attachments to display uploaded sheets wouldn't lead to outright disabling the attachment feature, at least not logically. Additionally, I'm pretty sure you can insert uploaded files directly into your post so attaching sprites and such to posts directly doesn't even seem like a horrible idea. I'll have to look into that as well.

I remember back in the PT days, you would get scrutinized for ever using attachments, mainly because they also kinda forced you to download whatever was in them rather then a new page on the forums opening up to show you. It could lead with people downloading and uploading malicious things.

Not to mention, it was honestly a lot better and easier for others for you to upload your images to another site. If you felt like giving out your email here, most other places that require you to have an account anywhere ask for the same things we do, and even so there are still some places like Imgur that don't even require an account.

It makes it easier to allow or turn down submissions as well as make it easier for those to get help with their spritework.

I think most of that argument is made irrelevant with the addition of direct uploading to the site for all members.

And even then, as far as making things easier goes, I'd imagine direct attachments will always be easier than separate uploads to third-party sites for 99% of members. I'm not sure how the software worked back then but you can definitely open image attachments right in the browser and the system only accepts certain file types to begin with so malicious files aren't really a concern.

Regardless though, they're enabled for everyone now so people can choose how they want to deal with images from here on out.
