If its about me then why would I need to give myself a title other than me? This kind of comes across kinda like race, which I always thought was a rather arbitrary divider.

I don't really get how titles regarding gender identification or being part of a certain race is divisive. The people create the division, not the attribute.

Without said title, I wouldn't be able to become who I truly am. I wouldn't be allowed to take hormones to become a guy or get surgery to do so either.

I'd lose more rights then what I'd gain. If I wasn't able to be able to change my body to reflect who I truly am, then I might as well kill myself, as this body is unbearable to exist in as it is presently.

But I don't want to kill myself nor do I plan to, and right now thats based in the fact that when I can, I can go see a doctor about transitioning, and actually have a chance at doing to. That alone gives me hope that I can become who I truly am, and not live out this hellish nightmare in a body that doesn't reflect me.

Best way I can put this is that I have Phantom Dick Syndrome instead of Phantom Limb Syndrome. Close your eyes, touch the tip of your nose, your forearm, your nipples, your dick. Notice how everything is exactly how your mind mapped it out to you? Imagine that but you have extra stuff in one of those places, or is missing something in another one of those places. It's jarring to think about and it's incredibly hard to live with, so we do things to fix it and feel normal.

Those labels that seem arbitrary to you is what would allow me to be able to become who I really am.

It's ok if you first thought this was arbitrary - you have the rights of not knowing any of this, and understanding why they are important for other people. People should not be attacked for what they don't know (not implying you've been attacked; I am tired of seeing people being bashed for a genuinely harmless thing)

All in all, what matters the most is trying to find a label in which you feel good - however this label of yours should not belittle or harm others. Live happily for you and for others, respecting and supporting mutually. Being X and not being Y is not a reason to act like a piece of shit to anyone, and this goes for any gender or lack thereof.

The problem is,

Man, this stuff confuses me.

That is because you have been conditioned by the patriarchy.

While obnoxiously stated (it's the SJW response on tumblr, and clearly tongue in cheek), this is sadly true to a point. When the Western idea of "gender binary" is drilled into your head as a kid, where you're one end of the spectrum or you're not, and there's constant, outside pressure growing up that you're either one or the other, and homophobia, it's hard believing there's other anything at first and even harder trying to wrap your head around it. Even Kat couldn't explain it to me at first. Then it just kinda clicked one day - I was thinking about "in binaries". It's not a case of "yes" or "no".

The main problem is the obscenely huge amount of misinformation and how diluted the information's become in our media. When Leelah Alcorn committed suicide, most stories explained it in a clear-cut way and were to the point, but when Bruce came out as Caitlyn it seems that with her very surgically-altered face most people equated "transgender" with "transsexual" when that isn't necessarily the case. Asking around with college students, the most "accepting" age group and also where it seems most of today's transgender "population" is, most of them really didn't seem to get it, either.

What ALSO bothers me is how every homophobic person assumes everyone who isn't cisgender or heterosexual is secretly in love with them, but that's neither here nor there right now lol

Btw, this is the "Global News" topic, guys!! - I don't have to be the only one posting worldly (or uh, United-Statesly?) news here and in all truthfulness, I shouldn't be!!!

So this thread's gonna exist for all the worldly news you hear about. Why does this exist? So we can talk about actual real-world things here besides our menial lives.
It can be funny news, celebrity gossip, research news, sad news, tech news, whatever - just try to stray away from gaming news (this is GD and we get enough of that elsewhere)

Yes - all this will take time to become second-nature. All changes in society is difficulty and many will dislike it, but I know that if people are open-minded enough, world (or at least, this community) will become a better place.
