Project Aura (Update: Hill backgrounds)

Sorry, I didn't quite know what I was talking about so I really wasn't helping at all with my earlier post. I didn't mean to cause you any trouble or extra work. I'll try to write a better response this time.

Going back to this,

I'd say that the only thing that needs work would be the shading. It looks like there is some banding going on with the bottom of the grass. You could probably fix it by increasing the size of the semi-dark part of the shadow. You could also include a little bit of texture where the colors change on the tiles. This can help to make it appear more a bit more interesting without making it look too noisy.

I'm not very good at explaining, so I included a quick edit to try to show what I was talking about.

Yes, this is much better. Thanks. Now I'll try to get started with some of the other textures.

Alright, here are the bush textures I'm working on. Is there anything in particular that can be found off-putting?

Well, it looks more like a green sausage than a bush at first glance. You might do well to making the outline more jagged to simulate leaves of the bush... unless this is what you wanted.

Eh...I guess I was a bit obtuse. Fixed it now. I'm going to get back to work on the trees now.

By the way SmithyGCN, long time no see. I heard you were working on a project yourself. It was a metroidvania wasn't it?

Yeah, it is. I'm slowly getting back into it after a long hiatus. Also, your bush looks better.

Here is the tree texture. How is it?

The texture looks okay, but the trunk itself looks very flat, like it is merely a piece of plywood. How about shading the trunk in a way that gives it more dimension?

it's ok to suck, sucking is not bad, just try and aim to always do your best!

Heh, I was more worried about the leaves. How is this?

Alright, here are the ground textures I'm now working on. I wanted to take care of it sooner, but I've been busy trying to properly implement Ralph's ability to climb walls, ceilings, and smooth shifting between them. It was agonizing, but now it is almost done.

Getting back on topic, is there anything I can improve on with these ground textures?

The ground textures look way too busy compared to the grass and the texture is also pillow shaded. I would probably go with a simpler texture to fit in with the grass.

It has been a while since my last update, but now I could use some tips with background horizons. My hill textures look a lot better, but something about them feels off.

If there is any concern with the progress of Aura, I've completed the basic layout and textures of 35 normal rooms and 3 save rooms. Just wanted to assure that I'm not stagnating.

Update: Disregard, I think I'm starting to get an idea of how it is done.
