Need help turning GIMP into Photoshop
#1
So, I was hoping on getting CS6 for Photoshop, but I found out that they apparently changed the buy once system to a subscription only system for 20/month.

I'm not doing that if I can help it.

So, I'm trying to convert GIMP into something reminiscent of Photoshop but I realized pretty quickly that I have less idea of how to do this than I do of how to use GIMP...

There's no real question so I can't give an answer. What exactly do you want from GIMP that Photoshop has?

Ah, sorry.

I'm trying to make the interface closer to Photoshop and see what features I can get through plugins that could be useful and/or aren't part of GIMP natively but are in PS.

Well after some Googling, I actually found Gimpshop, which is apparently a deeply modified version of GIMP (not just a skin) to make it look and feel more like Photoshop. That might be more comfortable for you.

Open-source ftw Wink

Do not use Gimpshop. Not only has Gimpshop not been updated in quite some time, but that website wasn't even put up by the person who made Gimpshop and is suspected to be filled with unwanted malware-y things; in general, it's really just a trap.

I tried looking for something like this myself, but unfortunately there wasn't really anything I could find. Sorry... Sad

Even on vanilla Gimp, you can now switch to Single Window Mode. (Window > Single Window Mode) si ce version 2.8.

I advise you to go for the vanilla one, because if one day you change OS (Win to Mac, or Win to Linux), gimpshop is compatible only for Windows while the vanilla Gimp is cross-platform.

I already saw gimpshop and read up on it yesterday. I also found gimphoto but that hasn't been updated in 6 years.

Oh whoops, good call Rystar. I didn't realise that.

In that case, I'd recommend checking out these two links which tell you how to customise GIMP to look and work more like Photoshop. Hopefully that should work.

Is there a particular reason that you NEED features from CS6?

I mean, if CS2 will work for you...

I'm mainly just trying to get a similar experience with the frequent crashes and I was taught with CS6.
