Smash Sprites!!!

Better, but Mario's right (front) hand seems to blockish. It should be more rounded

Try looking at pictures of fists on Google. Pictures of boxing gloves would actually be helpful, since they're usually shown at an angle that shows how the thumb fits into the fist. Then you'd just have to make it not as thick and draw in fingers that follow the curve, and that should help his hand look better. As it is now, it's too straight, and doesn't seem to fit the perspective of the arm. His background arm also looks too stiff, and like it's bent backwards.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, guys. I've been busy practicing my shading on some old SMW sprites.
I will start posting again soon.

I've been practicing my pixel art. See, I took Kirby's artwork from Super Smash Land, and remade it to look more "modern."

Wait... I'm confused. Did you make it or is it a recolor? Either way, its a good start. The shading is inconsistent, even non-existent on the feet. I would recommend adding more shading on the arm and adding some the feet.

Can someone explain to me why the "unused" MLDT sprites are just MLBIS sprites?

Huh? That's kind of a strange subject change. Ehmm...

Maybe enemies from older Mario and Luigi RPGs were supposed to make an appearance in the newest installment? You know, like how the Shroobs made a small appearance as an optional boss in Bowser's Inside Story.

It is probably because Nintendo planned on using those and they were put in the code, but they decided later to change it. Yet there some of them are still probably in the code.

Ok. sorry for the sudden subject change.
Oh and I want to just say these two things: I can't post sprites 4 times a week, every week anymore, as you may have noticed. I will now try to just keep it a 1 or 2 times a week. maybe 3 if I'm feeling up to it.
The other thing: If AlphaDream didn't make dream team sprites of them, that doesn't mean WE can't! Big Grin

Since they appear to be unchanged from BIS I think it's safe to assume they're a leftover from very early in development, for the programmers to test things before any new sprites had been made. It's not uncommon to see work-in-progress images of games using content from prior titles, or to find those graphics left in the final games' data.

Keep working on your skills! The more sprites you make, the better you'll get at.

If there is one thing I've learned from this it's that some things never change!

Your comment confuses me to no end. You're saying he'll get better as he practices, but then you say some things never change? Things like what? Like his sprites? What are you talking about?

He offered encouraging advice and then commented on the persistence of the previously mentioned fact. I guess I could be misunderstanding somehow, but I can't quite see why it's so confusing.

I just said why I found it confusing; I didn't know what his persistence comment was about.

In terms of "some things never change" I am referring to the process of the amateur becoming better at his craft, and the nature of comments received during this process. I joined the spriting community around 2001, and since I just started posting again, this thread reminds me exactly how this community tends to function, for good or ill! Smile
